When a man and a woman get married, it is one of the biggest decisions they will make in life. A man may select a woman because he, in his own eyes, sees her as the just-right wife for him. Every man has his own definition of what the "just-right" wife is. For example, the rich man and the poor man both may define their just-right wife according to her physical qualities.

A rich man may describe his "just-right"wife as charming, beautiful, wise and well developed. On the other hand, a poor man may define his "just-right" wife as pleasing, attractive, smart and shapely. Both men describe their just-right wife by the same physical qualities but use different words.

Although some men define the just-right wife by her physical qualities, other men describe their just-right wife by her other qualities. For example, the outdoor man may define his just-right wife as a woman who love to fish, to camp, and to hunt, while the inside sportsman may define his just-right wife as a woman who enjoys watching football, basketball and tennis. Both of these define their just-right wife by her sports qualities but in two different ways.

Men from all countries also have their definition of the just-right wife. For example, the Italian man describes his woman who stands six feet one inch tall with golden hair and blue eyes. On the other hand, the French man may describe his ideal woman as a woman who stands only five feet three inches with brown hair and green eyes.

Child labor-the employment of children in industry, often against their will - has been a problem for manyyears. Over a hundred years ago, Charles Dickens shocked many of his readers when he described theconditions under which young children worked in British factories. The conditions Dickens described continue almost unchanged today in many parts of the world. The only difference is that today employment of children is confined (limited) to small industries and family businesses, such as hotels, restaurants and particularly farms, rather than to large factories.

Girls suffer more from child labor practices than boys. Many of them are forced to start work when theyare only ten years old. Although the work they are given to do is often light, it is often harmful to the health.Recently, children as young as six years were found to be working in Asian factories, and the children wereworking from eight to fourteen hours a day in overcrowded and unhealthy working conditions. Sometimes awhole family group is employed, with the payment going to a parent or older relative. The children not onlyreceive nothing or very little for their long hours of work, but also they are prevented from attending school. Therefore, when they become older they are unable to do any other kind of work. The solution to the problem of child labor is clearly better laws to protect young children, greater supervision(监督) of industry and heavier fines for those who break the laws. Only in this way can young boys and girls be allowed to enjoy the most valuable time of their lives-childhood.

In most American cities, the rent for a one-bedroom apartment was $ 250 or more per month in recent years. In some smaller cities such as Louisville, Kentucky or Jacksonville, Florida the rent was less, but in larger cities it was more. For example, if you lived in Los Angeles, you had to pay $400 or more to rent a one-bedroom apartment, and the same apartment rented for $ 626 and up in Chicago. The most expensive rents in the US were in New York City, where you had to pay at least $ 700 a month to rent a one-bedroom apartment in most parts of the city.

Renters and city planners are worried about the high cost of renting apartments. Many cities now have rent-control laws to keep the cost of renting now. These laws help low-income families who cannot pay high rents.

Rent control in the United States began in 1943 when the government imposed (课税) rent controls on all American cities to help workers and the families of soldiers during World War After the war, only one city--New York--continued these World War II controls.
